Dr. Yuri Spirochkin
Biography
I graduated from the N. E. Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School (at present: N. E. Bauman Moscow State Technical University) in 1975 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in the field of spacecraft construction.
In different periods of my life, I worked in the aerospace industry, nuclear energy, and was also involved in developments in the field of information technology and bioengineering. The results are reflected in scientific and technical reports, regulatory documents, patents, articles and books - see Portfolio.

One of my achievements while working at the Scientific and Production Association Energia (now the S. P. Korolyov Rocket and Space Corporation Energia) was the creation of a mathematical model of the Soviet space shuttle Buran and the simulation of its possible emergency landing. This contributed to increasing safety in this situation and influenced my further professional interests and research activities.

During my subsequent work in the Russian nuclear energy, I was involved in rulemaking: developing guidelines and standards for the design of equipment and pipelines for nuclear power plants (NPPs) and managing their life cycle.
For some years, I worked as a visiting expert at the International Atomic Energy Agency, participating in the development of the VERLIFE standard in Austria, Czech Republic and Hungary. My activities also included certification of pipeline supports manufactured by the German company Lisega for delivery to the Leningradskaya NPP-2 under construction, and contributed to extending the service life of units 5 and 6 of the Kozloduy NPP in Bulgaria.
Now, I am engaged in independent R&D. I see my mission as contributing to the development of a philosophy of design that would ensure that newly created technical systems meet modern views on safe human-machine interaction. Since the beginning of 2025, this work has received informational and moral support from the Society of Aerospace and Nuclear Engineers.
In addition, I perform voluntary duties of an expert in the field of aerospace technology for the International Consultancy and Analysis Agency Aviation Safety.
I try not to limit my life to just my professional activities - see Hobbies.
